Supercharge Your Thermomix Baking!
In Episode 136, we invited the clever Sophia Handschuh from Thermomix Baking Blogger back on the podcast to give some tips on making your baking a little bit healthier. We are always interested to hear what healthy means to different people, and as baking isn’t traditionally considered ‘healthy’, we were interested to discover Sophia’s perspective… because, we know that if we ran a baking blog we would be the size of houses! Sophia lets us in on her secrets to staying healthy while she’s baking amazing cakes, tarts, breads, pastries and the like.
Click on the play button at the top or download this in iTunes or on Stitcher Radio (and don’t forget to leave a review – it really makes our day!)
Like so many of us, Sophia found that her extended family had a wide range of dietary needs, so when catering for family functions she needed to think about how she could make her baking more suitable for a wider variety of people. That’s how ‘Supercharged’ came to be. From vegetarian to vegan, to allergies to paleo. It’s no longer as easy as it used to be to feed your extended family and friends, right? Supercharged reflects these changes with different options for flours, sugars and fats.
Sophia shared how she uses discipline to not devour everything she bakes, and aims to add more nutrition to her baking by the ingredients she chooses.
Sophia’s Thermomix Flourless Beetroot Chocolate Tart is a great example of that!
We wanted to know… Why beetroot? In a dessert??? Sophia explains why beetroot is a great match for chocolate and the benefits it can give, not just by adding more nutrition, but to the colour, texture and taste.
Exciting news!
Sophia is generously giving away a copy of Supercharged to one lucky listener. All you need to do is check out the image of the contents below and tell us in the comments which recipe you would make first.
Want to know more about what Sophia is doing?
If you’re reading or listening to this podcast as it’s released, Sophia has a series of webinars starting this Saturday. This webinar is all about making healthy wraps for school or work.
PLUS – Sophia has a new book coming out this month called Tea Time. If you’re in London you can join Sophia LIVE for the launch of the book or you can get your copy on her online store.

Ohhhh too many to choose from but I’d have to say the healthy lemon tart as it’s my husbands absolute favourite and I won’t feel guilty eating it either as after all it is a “healthy lemon tart” 😉

Definitely the breakfast muffins- so handy for my long drive into work.
My husband has been sooo disciplined about losing weight over the last 12 months. He lost 21kgs and his target is another 5kgs but is struggling. The Thermomix has been invaluable over this period, but i am running out of ideas to help. Our aim has been not to use diet plans as we figured that reverting to normal causes weight gain. Supercharged book, with the likes of the tumeric milk and the super greens sound like they would be great for the metabolism.

It would have to be the flourless beetroot chocolate cake. My mouth was watering listening to Sophia taking about it on the podcast. I’m sure you could have bigger slices because it has vegetable in it, can’t possibly be bad for you!
I’d have to make the very choccy ice cream or the healthy lemon tart for starters!
Coconut buckwheat granola, because I’m always looking for ideas to vary my family breakfast menu. It is our most important meal since we are all hungry and all together at that time. After that, everybody’s day takes over!!! Thank you, this entire list looks absolutely awesome.

Everything looks amazing! I would definitely make the Broccoli Quinoa Bites! I think my children would love these! As would the adults. A winner for all at the table.
Oh, they all sound devine. I’m a bit strange and have a savoury rather than sweet tooth, so the spiced lamb meatballs or I’m curious about the cauliflower pizza. I don’t have any gluten issues, but moving towards less carbs – geez it’s hard, though!
