Can you make caramelised onions in the Thermomix?
Believe it or not, you can! We think that caramelised onions are a great way to add a bit of ‘fancy’ to a recipe. A perfect addition to a roast veggie quiche, like we did in Episode 144 of the podcast. Traditionally we have always done these on the stove, but we really wanted to try making caramelised onions in the Thermomix.
The two big realisations we had were…
- It’s great that the Thermomix puts in the elbow grease stirring, while we were doing other things
- It does take longer to get the caramelised onions to have the nice texture that we all want – but it totally gets there, and with minimal involvement!
So simple. Such minimal ‘everyday’ ingredients. So easy to make ahead of time.
We would love for you to give them a try and let us know what you think! How do they compare to the stovetop version???
Ideas for your caramelised onions in the Thermomix: added to a frittata, served alongside a hot breakfast, added to a quiche, stirred through pasta… what else have you got?
